Who this helps

Route fit

Best for

First-time Jeju visitors who want a rental car, coastal stops, light hiking, and lodging-base-first planning.

Not for

Travelers who want off-road driving, informal overnight stops, or someone to book lodging and providers for them.

Before you go

Before you go

  • Confirm the rental counter accepts your physical IDP, original license, passport, and driver-name credit card.
  • Save Jeju Airport rental pickup, rental return branch, and the exact Korean names for each day before leaving the lot.
  • Use the island clockwise enough to make sense: airport/north coast, east/Seongsan, south/Seogwipo, west/Hyeopjae, then airport.
  • Pick lodging bases by route direction: Seongsan for the east night, Seogwipo for the south night, and west/north only when the flight timing supports it.
  • Treat this as a strong example route. Drop stops that do not fit your taste, but keep the day direction intact.
Departure

Departure-ready checks

  • Rental: physical IDP, original home license, passport/ARC, driver-name credit card, pickup/return branch, deposit, insurance, fuel/charge policy, and Hi-pass status confirmed with the provider.
  • Maps: Naver Map and KakaoMap installed, each day saved as Korean names plus separate parking keywords, screenshots kept for airport, lodging, key stops, and return branch.
  • Lodging: first-night and route-base lodging checked directly for current operation, foreign reservation path, Korean phone verification, parking, payment method, cancellation rules, and late check-in.
  • Weather: one hotel/guesthouse backup kept for wind, heavy rain, failed lodging payment, or a late rental pickup.
  • Payment: two physical cards from different networks plus KRW cash prepared; do not depend on one app wallet, kiosk, or foreign-card flow.
  • Help: 1330 saved as 1330 in Korea and +82-2-1330 from overseas for tourist information, interpretation, and complaint support, not emergency rescue.
Route cards

Route card

Use the route card as the main day order, with base choices, Korean search terms, and the stops to trim first when the day feels full.

5-day complete Jeju loopUse this as the one Jeju route: airport, north-east coast, Seongsan, Seogwipo, Jungmun/Osulloc, west coast, and airport return.

This is the public sample and buyer route standard. It shows one confident 5-day Jeju plan instead of asking the traveler to choose between multiple versions.

Day 1: Airport -> Iho/Dodu -> Dongmun -> Hamdeok/Woljeongri -> Seongsan

Medium

Time shape

  1. 10:30-11:30 rental pickup, vehicle photos, first Naver/Kakao navigation check
  2. 11:45-12:20 Iho/Dodu short first-coast stop
  3. 12:45-14:00 Dongmun Market lunch, snacks, and supplies
  4. 14:50-15:50 Hamdeok or Woljeongri as the main north-east beach stop
  5. 16:20-17:05 Bijarim short forest walk if the day is still on pace
  6. 17:40-19:00 Seongsan lodging check-in and dinner base
Pacing call

This day works best when the rental car leaves the airport by late morning. If pickup slips after lunch, cut Iho/Dodu and Bijarim, then run Dongmun -> one north-east beach -> Seongsan.

Run this order

  • Pick up the rental car and make the first coast stop near Iho/Dodu.
  • Eat or stock up at Dongmun Market.
  • Drive the north-east coast through Hamdeok and one chosen beach: Gimnyeong or Woljeongri.
  • Sleep near Seongsan.

Before moving

  • rental branch and return branch
  • Seongsan lodging parking
  • Dongmun public parking
  • late check-in
Trim first

If arrival is late, cut the beach sequence and keep airport, Dongmun, and Seongsan lodging.

Day 2: Seongsan -> Udo ferry area or Gwangchigi -> Seopjikoji -> Seongeup

Medium

Time shape

  1. 08:30-10:00 Seongsan Ilchulbong, breakfast, and the first east-coast view
  2. 10:20-13:30 Udo ferry loop if this is the island day
  3. 10:20-11:10 Gwangchigi Beach instead when staying land-only
  4. 14:00-15:20 Seopjikoji coastal walk
  5. 16:00-17:00 Seongeup Folk Village
  6. 17:30-18:30 east or south-side lodging move
Pacing call

Udo turns Day 2 into a ferry-centered day. Without Udo, keep Gwangchigi, Seopjikoji, Seongeup, and a calm dinner instead of adding more distant stops.

Run this order

  • Use Seongsan Ilchulbong as the east anchor.
  • Choose either Udo ferry time or Gwangchigi Beach; the route works without forcing both.
  • Continue to Seopjikoji.
  • End the day with Seongeup Folk Village or an east/south lodging move.

Before moving

  • chosen Seongsan parking
  • Udo ferry area parking if used
  • next lodging check-in
  • Seongeup parking
Trim first

If ferries are not your thing, skip Udo and keep Gwangchigi, Seopjikoji, and Seongeup.

Day 3: Seongeup/Saryeoni -> Soesokkak -> Seogwipo Market -> Cheonjiyeon/Saeyeongyo

Medium

Time shape

  1. 09:00-10:20 Saryeoni Forest Road and a short forest walk
  2. 11:10-12:10 Soesokkak as the south-east water stop
  3. 12:40-14:00 Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market lunch and supplies
  4. 14:15-16:30 Seogwipo check-in, parking reset, or coffee break
  5. 17:30-19:00 Cheonjiyeon Falls or Saeyeongyo evening walk
Pacing call

This is the reset day after the east coast. Keep it south-focused and do not pull Jungmun into Day 3.

Run this order

  • Move from the east inland through Saryeoni Forest Road.
  • Use Soesokkak as the south-east water/coast stop.
  • Settle into Seogwipo with the market for food.
  • Add Cheonjiyeon Falls or Saeyeongyo for the evening if you want one more walk.

Before moving

  • Seogwipo lodging parking
  • market public-lot search
  • Soesokkak parking
  • evening stop distance
Trim first

If you want a slower day, skip either Soesokkak or the evening walk and keep the Seogwipo base.

Day 4: Jeongbang -> Jusangjeolli/Jungmun -> Osulloc -> Sanbangsan/Yongmeori -> west lodging

Medium

Time shape

  1. 09:00-10:00 Jeongbang Falls from the Seogwipo base
  2. 10:45-12:10 Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff and Jungmun Saekdal Beach
  3. 12:10-13:30 Jungmun lunch or beach pause
  4. 14:15-15:30 Osulloc Tea Museum
  5. 16:10-17:30 Sanbangsan or Yongmeori Coast
  6. 18:00-19:00 west or north-west lodging check-in
Pacing call

This is the densest Jeju day. Sanbangsan/Yongmeori is the first trim point; the core is Seogwipo -> Jungmun -> Osulloc -> west lodging.

Run this order

  • Start with Jeongbang Falls while based in Seogwipo.
  • Move west through Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff and Jungmun Saekdal Beach.
  • Use Osulloc as the mid-afternoon stop.
  • Add Sanbangsan or Yongmeori Coast if you want one more southwest stop.
  • Sleep in the west or north-west so the final day does not backtrack.

Before moving

  • west lodging parking
  • Jungmun parking
  • Osulloc parking
  • Sanbangsan/Yongmeori parking
Trim first

If the day is full, drop Sanbangsan/Yongmeori and keep Jungmun, Osulloc, and the west base.

Day 5: Hyeopjae/Geumneung -> Aewol/Handam -> Yongduam or Dongmun -> airport return

High

Time shape

  1. 09:00-10:30 Hyeopjae or Geumneung west-beach morning
  2. 11:15-12:30 Aewol/Handam coastal walk
  3. 13:10-14:10 Yongduam or Dongmun as the final city-side stop
  4. 14:30-15:30 fuel or charge, rental return, shuttle, and airport move
Pacing call

Set the rental return target first, then keep only the coast that fits before it. On an early flight, Hyeopjae/Geumneung plus return is enough.

Run this order

  • Start with Hyeopjae or Geumneung for the west beach morning.
  • Move along the north-west coast to Aewol/Handam.
  • Use Yongduam or Dongmun only if you have a comfortable airport buffer.
  • Return the rental car before the day becomes a race.

Before moving

  • rental return branch
  • fuel/charge plan
  • flight cutoff
  • last parking search
Trim first

If the flight is early, skip Aewol/Yongduam and go west beach -> airport return.

Route logic

Route logic

Day 1Planning card

Airport pickup -> Iho/Dodu -> Dongmun -> Hamdeok/Woljeong -> Seongsan

Turn the first day into a real north-to-east arrival route. Start with easy airport-side coast, eat or stock up in Jeju City, then follow the north coast toward the Seongsan base.

Route map · Day 1

Use this map to follow the stop order and see how the day moves.

1

Jeju Airport rental pickup zone

Parking:

This is the practical start of the route, not an attraction. Finish documents, vehicle photos, Hi-pass questions, return-branch saving, and the first Naver/Kakao navigation check here so the first real drive feels calm.

2

Iho Tewoo / Dodu first coast

Address:

Parking:

A light first-ocean stop close to the airport, known for the red and white horse-shaped lighthouses around Iho and the easy Dodu coast. It gives the trip a clear Jeju opening before the longer eastward drive.

3

Dongmun Market

Address:

Parking:

Jeju City's classic market stop for seafood, tangerines, snacks, small souvenirs, and an easy meal before leaving town. It is useful because it combines local flavor with practical supplies for the east-coast drive.

4

Hamdeok Seoubong Beach

Parking:

One of Jeju's easiest first beaches: white sand, clear shallow water, and Seoubong rising behind the shore. It feels like a proper beach stop without pulling the route away from the north-east coast.

5

Woljeongri Beach

Address:

Parking:

A north-east coast pause with pale sand, blue water, wind, and a strong cafe-road feel. Use it as the beach-and-coffee version of Day 1; if the day is full, choose this or Gimnyeong rather than trying to collect every beach.

6

Bijarim Forest

비자림

Address:

Parking:

A protected forest of old bija trees with a calm, shaded walking path. It adds Jeju's inland forest texture to a coast-heavy day without requiring a hard hike.

7

Seongsan lodging base

Address:

Parking:

This lodging base is the reason the east day works. Sleeping near Seongsan puts Sunrise Peak, Gwangchigi, Seopjikoji, and the Udo ferry area close together instead of starting Day 2 with a cross-island drive.

Base

Sleep near Seongsan or the east coast so Day 2 starts near the island's strongest east-side stops.

On-road note

Dongmun and beach stops are easier when the parking keyword is searched before the food or cafe keyword.

Trim first

If arrival is late, keep airport -> Dongmun -> Seongsan lodging and move the coast stops to another day.

Day 2Planning card

Seongsan -> Udo or Gwangchigi -> Seopjikoji -> Seongeup

Give the east its own day. Start with Seongsan, choose either Udo ferry time or Gwangchigi Beach, then keep Seopjikoji and Seongeup as the land route.

Route map · Day 2

Use this map to follow the stop order and see how the day moves.

1

Seongsan Ilchulbong

Address:

Parking:

Jeju's iconic east-side volcanic tuff cone, famous for the crater rim and ocean views. It is the strongest reason to sleep near Seongsan and gives the day an unmistakable Jeju landmark from the start.

2

Seongsan Port for Udo

Parking:

This is the gateway decision for Udo, not a mandatory attraction. Choose it when the day is meant to include ferry time, island scenery, and a slower lunch rhythm; otherwise stay on Jeju Island and keep the east coast moving.

3

Gwangchigi Beach

Address:

Parking:

A wide east-coast beach that frames Seongsan Ilchulbong across the water. At low tide the dark volcanic texture becomes more visible, making it a strong photo-and-walk stop even when Udo is skipped.

4

Seopjikoji

Address:

Parking:

A windy coastal headland with grass, cliffs, ocean paths, and a lighthouse-like viewpoint feel. It follows Seongsan naturally and gives the east day a more cinematic coastal walk.

5

Seongeup Folk Village

Address:

Parking:

A preserved folk village where Jeju stone walls, old houses, local customs, and village lanes make the island feel older than the beach route. It balances the east coast with a cultural stop before the southbound move.

Base

Stay around Seongsan/east again or move lightly toward the south-east so Day 3 can enter Saryeoni and Seogwipo cleanly.

On-road note

Udo is a choice, not a requirement. If ferry timing makes the day messy, stay on land and keep Gwangchigi, Seopjikoji, and Seongeup.

Trim first

If you dislike ferries or summit walks, use Gwangchigi, Seopjikoji, and Seongeup as a land-only east day.

Day 3Planning card

Seongeup/Saryeoni -> Soesokkak -> Seogwipo Market -> Cheonjiyeon

Move from east to south through forest and water stops, then settle in Seogwipo instead of rushing the west side too early.

Route map · Day 3

Use this map to follow the stop order and see how the day moves.

1

Saryeoni Forest Trail

Address:

Parking:

A quiet forest-road walk that changes the trip's rhythm after two coast-heavy days. The value is the shaded cedar-and-forest mood, not a strenuous hike.

2

Soesokkak Estuary

Address:

Parking:

A small estuary where fresh water, black volcanic rock, and the sea meet. It works as a short water-and-rock stop before the route enters central Seogwipo.

3

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market

Address:

Parking:

Seogwipo's practical food anchor: street snacks, fruit, seafood, simple meals, and supplies all sit close to the south-side lodging base. It makes Day 3 feel settled rather than just transferred.

4

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall

Address:

Parking:

A classic Seogwipo waterfall with an easy walking approach and a softer evening mood than the exposed coast. It is a good add-on when the market and lodging check-in are already under control.

5

Saeyeongyo Bridge

새연교

Address:

Parking:

A short bridge-and-harbor walk that keeps the evening close to Seogwipo. Choose it when you want ocean air without adding another long drive after dinner.

Base

Sleep in Seogwipo so Day 4 can start with the waterfalls and move west through Jungmun.

On-road note

Seogwipo is a city day. Park once near lodging or the market when possible instead of hopping lots all evening.

Trim first

If you want a slower day, skip either Soesokkak or the evening walk and keep the Seogwipo base.

Day 4Planning card

Jeongbang -> Jungmun -> Osulloc -> Sanbangsan/Yongmeori -> west lodging

This is the south-to-west transfer day. Start in Seogwipo, take the Jungmun coast, reset at Osulloc, then decide whether Sanbangsan/Yongmeori fits before the west night.

Route map · Day 4

Use this map to follow the stop order and see how the day moves.

1

Jeongbang Waterfall

Address:

Parking:

A dramatic coastal waterfall where the route begins Day 4 with a real Seogwipo landmark before turning west. It gives the south day a strong opening without a long detour from the lodging base.

2

Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff

Address:

Parking:

A coastal geology stop where columnar volcanic rock meets waves below the Jungmun area. It is short, visual, and easy to pair with Jungmun before the route turns inland toward Osulloc.

3

Jungmun Saekdal Beach

Address:

Parking:

A broad resort-area beach that adds open sand and surf energy after the cliff stop. It is the beach version of Jungmun: bigger, more exposed, and more dramatic than the smaller east-coast pauses.

4

Osulloc Tea Museum

Address:

Parking:

A tea-field and museum stop that gives the westward transfer an indoor/outdoor pause. It is useful because it breaks the drive, adds a different Jeju texture from beaches and waterfalls, and sits before the Sanbangsan decision point.

5

Sanbangsan

산방산

Address:

Parking:

A bold south-west landmark that makes the landscape feel heavier and more volcanic after the softer tea-field stop. Keep it when the afternoon still has energy; it is memorable, but it should not make the west lodging move rushed.

6

Yongmeori Coast

Address:

Parking:

A layered sandstone coast shaped by waves, often paired with Sanbangsan for a strong south-west finish. It is best treated as an extra-value stop because sea conditions and timing can affect the visit.

Base

Use a west or north-west base so the final day can be beach, Aewol, and airport return without backtracking.

On-road note

Sanbangsan/Yongmeori is the trim point. Keep Jungmun, Osulloc, and west lodging as the spine.

Trim first

If the day is full, drop Sanbangsan/Yongmeori and keep Jungmun, Osulloc, and the west base.

Day 5Planning card

Hyeopjae/Geumneung -> Aewol/Handam -> Yongduam or Dongmun -> airport return

Finish with the west and north-west coast, then protect the rental return. This is a proper ending day, not a catch-all for leftovers.

Route map · Day 5

Use this map to follow the stop order and see how the day moves.

1

Hyeopjae Beach

Address:

Parking:

A west-side beach known for bright sand, shallow emerald water, black basalt contrast, and views toward Biyangdo. It gives the final day a true Jeju beach memory before the route starts returning to the airport.

2

Geumneung Beach

Address:

Parking:

A quieter companion to Hyeopjae with similar west-coast color and Biyangdo views. Use it when you want a softer beach pause, or pair it briefly with Hyeopjae if the morning is relaxed.

3

Aewol Handam Coastal Walk

Address:

Parking:

A north-west coastal walk with black basalt, blue water, cafes, and an easy return direction toward Jeju City. It works well as the final scenic coast before the route becomes practical again.

4

Yongduam Rock

용두암

Address:

Parking:

A compact Jeju City coastal landmark shaped like a dragon-head rock, useful when the airport buffer is comfortable. It is a final photo-and-walk stop, not a reason to gamble with rental return time.

5

Jeju Airport rental return

Parking:

The route ends by protecting the return, not by chasing one more distant place. Save fuel or charging time, shuttle movement, luggage, and airport timing for a calm finish.

Base

Book the last night by return timing. If the flight is early, sleep nearer the airport and keep this day short.

On-road note

Return timing decides the route density. The final city stop is optional; the rental return is not.

Trim first

If the flight is early, skip Aewol/Yongduam and go west beach -> airport return.

A dramatic coastal waterfall that gives Day 4 a strong Seogwipo opening before the route turns west. It is close enough to the lodging base to start the day cleanly.

Parking/payment

Use it as the morning opener before Jungmun and Osulloc.

Cheonjiyeon Falls / Saeyeongyo Bridge

A classic Seogwipo waterfall with an easy walking approach and a softer evening mood than the exposed coast. It works well after the market and lodging check-in are settled.

Parking/payment

Pick Jeongbang or Cheonjiyeon if the day is full; both are not required.

Seogwipo Maeil Olle Market

Seogwipo's practical food anchor for street snacks, fruit, seafood, simple meals, and supplies near the south-side lodging base.

Parking/payment

Use the public parking keyword and carry a backup card/cash.

Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff

A short, visual geology stop where columnar volcanic rock meets waves below Jungmun. It pairs naturally with Jungmun before the route turns inland toward Osulloc.

Parking/payment

Treat it as a concise stop that leads into the next westbound move.

Jungmun Saekdal Beach

A broad resort-area beach with open sand and surf energy. It changes the mood after the cliff stop and feels bigger than the smaller east-coast pauses.

Parking/payment

Skip it if you already spent time at Jusangjeolli or the return clock is tight.

Osulloc Tea Museum

A tea-field and museum stop that gives the westward transfer an indoor/outdoor pause and a different Jeju texture from beaches and waterfalls.

Parking/payment

Treat it as the west-side reset stop before beach time, not as a separate detour.

Sanbangsan

A bold south-west volcanic landmark that makes the landscape feel heavier after the softer tea-field stop. It gives Day 4 a memorable contrast.

Parking/payment

Use this or Yongmeori, not both, when the day is full.

Yongmeori Coast

A layered sandstone coast shaped by waves, often paired with Sanbangsan for a strong south-west finish. Add it when Day 4 has enough breathing room.

Parking/payment

Treat it as the Day 4 trim point when timing gets tight.

Hyeopjae Beach

A west-side beach known for bright sand, shallow emerald water, black basalt contrast, and views toward Biyangdo. It gives the final day a true Jeju beach memory.

Parking/payment

On return day, decide the stop length first and keep the airport buffer intact.

Geumneung Beach

A quieter companion to Hyeopjae with similar west-coast color and Biyangdo views. Choose it when you want a softer final beach pause.

Parking/payment

Use as the companion or swap for Hyeopjae, not an extra obligation.

Aewol Handam Coastal Walk

A north-west coastal walk with black basalt, blue water, cafes, and an easy return direction toward Jeju City. It works as the final scenic coast before the route becomes practical again.

Parking/payment

Use on a slow return day only; skip it for a same-day tight flight.

Yongduam Rock

A compact Jeju City coastal landmark shaped like a dragon-head rock. Use it as a final photo-and-walk stop when the airport buffer is comfortable.

Parking/payment

Keep this optional; rental return timing comes first.

Hallasan trail planning

한라산

Jeju's central mountain card. It is not part of the core public 5-day loop; use it only when a traveler wants to create a separate hiking day.

Parking/payment

Start with the official Hallasan visitor site for current trail/reservation notices. Do not assume trailhead car sleeping or easy parking.

Lodging bases

Lodging-base choices

Jeju-wide lodging-base search

Start here before choosing a first-night or route-base stay.

  • Is the property currently operating on your date?
  • Can a foreign visitor reserve without Korean phone identity verification?
  • Can you pay online/on site with a foreign card, or is cash/bank transfer required?
  • Is late check-in possible on your arrival date?
  • Is parking included, paid, height-limited, or nearby?
Best use

Listing filters are not a booking guarantee. Actual results can vary and should be confirmed with the provider.

North/east lodging candidates

Useful when the route sleeps near Hamdeok, Gimnyeong, or Seongsan instead of returning to Jeju City.

  • Confirm late check-in and how the property handles foreign guests.
  • Ask whether parking is on-site, public, paid, or height-limited.
  • Ask whether weather, summer crowds, or seasonal rules affect access.
Best use

Foreign reservation, payment, and check-in rules remain provider/date-specific.

West-side extension lodging

Optional Day 4-5 west loop when the buyer wants beach time and a slower airport return buffer.

  • Confirm current room availability, check-in, parking, and cancellation rules.
  • Do not rely on a beach review or old blog post as proof that the area is easy for late arrival.
  • Keep a guesthouse/hotel backup if wind or rain is forecast.
Best use

Official tourism pages show beach context, not a promise that a foreign visitor can book a specific stay today.

Jeju route-card use rule

  • Use the single 5-day route as the default.
  • Use parking keywords before attraction keywords.
  • Treat every lodging base as unconfirmed until the provider/date/payment details are checked.
  • Skip stops when the card says the friction is no longer worth it.

  • Keep departure-day driving short.
